God bless the USA
By James T. Holter

The 9/11 tragedy hit home for everyone, including dirt bikers. Predictably, the races that following Sunday were marked by a proliferation of flags and other patriotic garb. Some of the more interesting contributions were home-made, such as the below jersey sported by yours truly on Sept. 16.

Some may have questioned the appropriateness of going racing so soon after the attacks. However, the logic behind the cancellations of major sporting events simply doesn't translate to the amateur level. Watching other guys play on TV is entertainment. Racing is riding, gathering, congregating and competing. These are activities that are more about human interaction than pure fun, and they're also among those freedoms that those who hate us wish to strip away.

So, want to do what's right? Give blood, money and time to those in need, and don't ever let them take your dirt bikes away.
